How to deal with rejection

Rejection or being rejected is a part of life that most of the time hard to accept either it’s professional or personal.

In the context of dating or relationship, rejection means you’re being rejected by a potential date or partner.

  • Rejection is an information, not an identity. Your value isn’t determined by the people you don’t match with.
  • Rejection is usually about compatibility, not your worth as a person. Someone can think you’re great and still not want to date you for a million reasons that have nothing to do with you.
  • Keep in mind that (you) also reject others. (You don’t say “yes” to everyone nor approach everyone.)
  • Each of us has our own mate selection screening process, preferences, and must haves list.
  • Each of us has our own “red flags”, expectations, boundaries, and “deal breakers”.
  • In order for them to have been “the one” they would have had to see you as being “the one”.
  • At the very least a “soulmate” is someone who actually wants to be with you!
  • Most people you meet don’t become dates, most dates don’t become relationships, and most relationships don’t lead to marriage. As one adage goes: “Many are called but few are chosen.”
  • In a world with over 8 Billion people rejection just means: Next!

What can you do?

  • Accept that it wasn’t mean to be, and use that experience to look forward to meet the right one.
  • It’s better to realize an incompatibility early & quickly, this prevents both people from suffering later. Incompatibilities are no one’s fault, they’re just differences.
  • Respecting the rejection, continuing in a calm, friendly, and respectful way, staying happy and unphased, and giving them space.
  • Just take time to feel what you feel and not rush through it. It’s okay to feel those feelings. It’s okay to hurt. It’s even okay to cry.
